YEARS

memories from Germany

Back in 2017, me and my husband moved from Brazil to Germany to continue our uni studies with little attached to our names: 2 cats, some clothes, a bunch of books and a DSLR camera.

Having a DSLR camera was my dream for many, many years until I was finally able to purchase one in 2014. I took it everywhere, I photographed everything and everyone, but over the years I was loosing interest in digital photography and picking up my camera with me less and less. I thought maybe a smaller camera would be what I needed and got a cybershop to carry around but I barely ever used it and quickly sold it. But my love for photography wasn’t gone, just needed something that I didn’t know what it was yet.

Between 2018 and 2019 I started buying those cheap (at the time) disposable cameras from the store and re-discovered my love for analog.

Somewhere during my teenage years I discovered an olympus trip 100 at home and stole it from my parents. That film camera made its way to Germany with me but I didn’t know if it still worked, it hadn’t been tested in years and I knew the flash was broken beyond repair. I took it to a shop and the guy there said it was cheaper to buy a new one but I gave it a try anyway and it turns out it does work!

In that same shop, in a snowy day in Berlin, I purchased my fist manual film camera, the famous Canon AE-1. They guy gave me a roll to test it and it was game over for the digital cameras right there and then. From the second half of 2019, thought pandemic all the way to 2021 I was shooting as much as I could. It was hard with all the restrictions and I was feeling frustrated and limited very often but I made it to the other side. I decided to share pictures from this period here.

In them you’ll see me shooting just my husband and our pets, from when we get a dog to when I asked him to take pictures of me. From when I first started building concepts and asking my friends to pose for me till right before I moved to portugal and turned photography into a job.

You’ll see a bit of life before covid transitioning into quarantines and lockdowns, to making the best of the time we had outside during lockdown lifts. You’ll see life as perfect as it is in all its imperfections.
